Acupuncture Can Improve ED!!

A specialty of mine is Erectile Dysfunction, caused by various issues or that has occurred as a result of Radical Prostatectomy. Many guys won't talk about ED or look for help. But there IS help!!

Men have two bundles of nerves that are essential for an erection. They run on each side of the prostate. They can be damaged by surgery or radiation for prostate cancer. & everyone sustains nerve loss as they age. Acupuncture can help keep these nerves firing properly therefore the penis responding normally to nerve stimulation. & it may also help in the deterioration of nerves as one ages. This equals healthy erections once again!!

ED can also be caused by damage or weakening of the blood vessels & muscles in & around the penis. For a healthy erection to be maintained, blood flows into the penis, veins stretch & shut to keep blood into the penis, allowing for a full erection. If the penis isn't getting full blood flow & shutting off of the veins, blood leaks back out & a full erection isn't achieved. As men age vessels & muscle tissue in the penis weaken. Weak muscles can also attribute to ED. Acupuncture can help with these two issues as well. Add some easy exercises to the treatment mix, & you will see results!!

Don't be embarrassed & ignore this important issue!! Take the natural, healthy approach rather than taking drugs that can cause nasty side-effects. Call, email or text me today!!

Acupuncture to help cancer side-effects

Cancer has become a major & more prevalent problem in the last decade or so. It used to be a death sentence but now I tell people you better stay prepared for the rest if your life!!

Cancer treatment is advancing significantly everyday!! Chances are your going to live!! The unfortunate part or the hard part to live with, are the side-effects of treatment. But there is relief out there.

Acupuncture & herbs can significantly reduce or eliminate the side-effects of cancer treatment. Things such as nausea, fatigue, cracked/dry skin, mouth ulcers, etc. It's natural & safe & carries no side-effects of its own.

In Sweden, a 2008 study that involved 215 cancer patients proved that acupuncture can eliminate the need for additional drugs & reduce nausea suffered during radiation treatments.

While this is a small number the reality is there's a large number of cancer patients experiencing these benefits, their just not documented. You Can get through cancer feeling better than you think with some extra alternative care!!

'Tis the season for asthma & allergies!!

A study done on acupuncture & asthma revealed that symptoms of bronchial asthma were markedly improved after acupuncture treatments, and the dosage of patient's medication was gradually reduced. Another study suggests improvement of the quality of life for patients with clinically stable, chronic obstructive asthma when conventional care is combined with acupuncture.

I have asthma & it was always a problem until I began acupuncture myself 10 yrs ago. It is now rarely a problem. & if it is, its because I traveled somewhere & it was triggered by a different environment & with the taking of some herbs, it will calm back down within a half hour.

Call me & lets make you an acupuncture & asthma success story!!

Women's Sexual Dysfunction

I focus a lot on men's sexual health/dysfunction but women's is just as important as men's!!

Some key things to know about women's sexual dysfunction are:
Women's sexual dysfunctions correlate most strongly with poor mental health and with negative feelings for the partner, rather than with any serum hormone (or hormone metabolite) levels/imbalances

Normal changes that occur with age and relationship duration must not be mistaken for desire/interest disorder. Desire disorder is diagnosed when there is a lack of anticipatory sexual desire, and desire (along with pleasure, arousal, and excitement) cannot be triggered during sexual activity and results in distress

The most common syndrome is lack of initial desire, little subjective arousal (mental sexual excitement) such that desire is not triggered during any portion of the sexual engagement, and infrequent or no orgasm

Acupuncture & herbs are a wonderful & safe way to treat women's & men's sexual dysfunction. Be the problem mental or true hormone imbalances, you can get this component of your health back!!

Acupuncture & Pain Study... An Article

Here's a link to an article from The New York Times, about acupuncture & pain.

Here are two highlights:

The researchers, who published their results in Archives of Internal Medicine, found that acupuncture outperformed sham treatments and standard care when used by people suffering from osteoarthritis, migraines and chronic back, neck and shoulder pain.

“We think there’s firm evidence supporting acupuncture for the treatment of chronic pain.”

Fibromyalgia Read

Fibromyalgia is a condition WHA specializes n. Here's a little read about how acupuncture can help!!
Acupuncture has truly stood the test of time for pain relief. It has moved millions from a place of pain and suffering to a place of health and wellbeing. And acupuncture is not limited to just treating pain. It also relieves fatigue as well as addressing mental/emotional issues such as depression and anxiety. Universities like Duke and Harvard and hospitals like Cedar Sinai and Mayo Clinic have presented decisive scientific research proving acupunctures effectiveness.
“We found that acupuncture significantly improved symptoms of fibromyalgia. Symptomatic improvement was not restricted to pain relief and was most significant for fatigue and anxiety.” Dr. David Martin, Mayo Clinic, PMID: 16770975
Researchers at the University of Michigan Health System found that acupuncture used to treat fibromyalgia patients reduced pain significantly after only four weeks. Researchers also found lower levels of pain was linked to lower levels of glutamate in the brain, suggesting it could be used as a biological indicator of the degree of pain relief.
Groundbreaking research at the Mayo Clinic found that acupuncture considerably improved symptoms of fibromyalgia. Doctors were surprised that not only did acupuncture offer pain relief but it also gave significant relief for fatigue and anxiety…perhaps the best treatment available today in their opinion.
In another study, participants receiving acupuncture were compared to others administered amitriptyline, a common prescription drug used for fibromyalgia. Researchers showed that the patients who received the acupuncture were the only ones to significantly relieve pain, depression and improve their general mental health after only the first month.
Imagine not having to rely on pain medications that have dangerous side effects. Think about how wonderful life would be to have the energy and pep to do the things you love to do.
If you are plagued with constant or recurring fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue symptoms, if you’re dead tired and in pain all day, if you worry about being able to play with your children because you always feel “miserable,” you might consider getting a course of acupuncture.

Consider Treating Erectile Dysfunction Naturally

Drugs that are on the market for Erectile Dysfunction are a big business and they have big side-effects. These drugs commonly cause headaches, indigestion, nasal congestion, back pain and muscles aches, temporary vision changes and can even cause dizziness. Why subject yourself to that discomfort when there's an equally effective and natural way to improve your sexual health?

Acupuncture can successfully treat Erectile Dysfunction and other Sexual Disorders in a non-invasive way with absolutely no side-effects. Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into the body and in doing so stimulation of the bodies muscles, nerves, blood vessels and hormones occurs to help you achieve healthy erections and an improved sex life. There is little to no pain involved with acupuncture.

The results you can expect from acupuncture treatments are a quicker response to excitation and stimulation, stronger erections and increased sexual stamina. What you will not experience is headaches, back aches or any other side-effect to keep you from enjoying intimate moments. With a few consistent treatments you'll be on your way to feeling like you did in your youth. Not to mention, acupuncture is much more cost-effective then filling a prescription.

Consider acupuncture for a natural and safe way to improve your Erectile or Sexual Dysfunction. There can be no harm, only healing. You can and deserve to feel like your complete self again!

Case Study 2

CASE STUDY 2

Patient:
Female, 38 y.o.

Main Complaint:
Patient came to me with the complains of joint pain and swelling due to Rheumatoid Arthritis. She experiences sharp to dull aching pain in mainly her left knee and right ankle. Both swell significantly during flares. She has occasional pain in her other knee and ankle and PIP/DIPS. Flares occur anywhere from once a week to once a month.

Secondary Complaint:
Patient has a Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis and has occasional weakness and pain in her right arm. She doesn’t have any other physical symptoms causing her discomfort at this point.

OM History:
No headaches, no tinnitus, occasional foggy mind, no floaters, no palpitations, no sob, good appetite and digestion, no gas/bloating, occasional constipation due to medications, urination normal, no low back problems, low stress, exercises regularly and eats a well balanced diet, menstrual cycle is normal, poor sleep, night sweats, cold hands and feet, dizziness, anxious and irritable mood.

History:
Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis.

Medications:
Naproxen, Copaxone, Orencia.

Pulse:
Wiry

Tongue:
Slightly dusky with a thick white coat and distended veins.

Diagnosis:
Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.

Differentation:
LV/KI Yin Xu with LV Qi Yu, LV Xue Xu and Damp Retention.

Treatment Principle:
Nourish LV/KI Yin and LV Xue, Soothe LV Qi and Drain Damp.

Points and Methods Used:
3 Intelligent Points; Yintang; RN 17, 6; Buddha’s Triangle; 4 Gates; SI 3; SP 10, 9, 6; ST 36, 40; GB 34, 39, 41; LV 8, 3 or 2; KI 8, 6; BL 62. When her knee does hurt I apply Estim at Xiyan.

Herbs Prescribed:
None.

Results:
Main Complaint:
Patient experienced significant results after one treatment but initially still experienced flares in between sessions thereafter. After 6 months of consistently weekly treatment, her flares greatly subsided as well as the pain and swelling. Shortly after this time period, the patient made the decision to try to get pregnant. Therefore, her other physicians took her off of her naproxen, copaxone and put her on a monthly dose of orencia. She had trouble again with flares, pain and swelling for the first 2 months after going off of her medication. We continued weekly treatments. After another 6 months of consistent treatment, totaling a year of continued weekly treatments, the patient rarely gets flares anymore and her pain and swelling level are almost non-existent. She will however, experience a flare or pain and swelling directly related to periods of extreme stress. Once an acupuncture treatment is done it all disappears again. She is still off all but one of her medications.

Second Complaint:
After a year of consistent weekly treatment, the patient had an MRI and it revealed that since her last MRI 2 years before, the lesions on her brain from the MS have not grown in size. Before acupuncture they grew consistently every year. That growth has stopped or slowed to an immeasurable amount.

Conclusion:
This patient came to me after suffering the symptoms of Rheumatic flares, pain and swelling and a diagnosis of MS since she was in her early 20s. Conventional drugs have helped her some but once acupuncture was introduced she improved in leaps and bounds as she never had before. Even after stopping some of the medications that had been helping, with weekly treatment she continues to improve! Her current differentiation is just LV Qi Yu except when she has an occasional flare, swelling or pain the Damp component rears its head. Her tongue is normal with occasional teeth marks but no longer does she have distended veins or a thick white coat. In her words, she feels amazing!

Definitions:
Rheumatoid arthritis - is a chronic inflammatory disorder. It typically affects the small joints in your hands and feet but can also affect the larger ones such as the hips, knees and ankles. Unlike osteoarthritis, which is due to wear and tear of the joints, rheumatoid arthritis affects the lining of the joints, causing a painful swelling that can eventually result in bone erosion and joint deformity.
This is an autoimmune disorder. When rheumatoid arthritis occurs the immune system mistakenly attacks your own body's tissues. In addition to causing joint problems, rheumatoid arthritis can also affect your whole body with fevers and fatigue.
It is much more common in women than in men and generally occurs between the ages of 40 and 60. Treatment focuses on controlling symptoms and preventing further joint damage.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) - is a potentially debilitating disease in which the body's immune system eats away at the protective sheath (myelin) that covers your nerves. Damage to this tissue myelin causes interference in the communication between the brain, spinal cord and other areas of the body. This condition may result in deterioration of the nerves themselves, this process is not reversible.
The symptoms vary widely, depending on the amount of damage and the nerves that are affected. People with severe cases of multiple sclerosis may lose the ability to walk or even speak clearly. Multiple sclerosis can be difficult to diagnose early in the course of the disease because symptoms often come and go. They sometimes can disappear for months.

Can Acupuncture Help with Hypo/Hyperthyroidism?

Yes & Yes!!
Acupuncture & other modalities of treatment within Oriental Medicine can work wonders for those suffering from Hypo/Hyperthyroidism.

How? Both of these conditions have various symptoms associated with them. Acupuncture & especially Chinese herbs, greatly reduces or can eliminate a lot of these symptoms. In both it can level out the TSH, T3 & T4 hormones. If you have the extremes of these conditions, Hashimoto's Disease or Grave's Disease, treatment is just as beneficial!!
In hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's it treats:
  • Increased sensitivity to cold
  • Constipation
  • Dry skin
  • Unexplained weight gain
  • Puffy face
  • Hoarseness of the voice
  • Muscle weakness
  • Elevated blood cholesterol level
  • Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness
  • Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints
  • Heavier than normal or irregular menstrual periods
  • Thinning hair, fine or brittle
  • Slowed heart rate
  • Depression
  • Impaired memory

  • In hyperthyroidism/Grave's it treats:
  • Sudden weight loss, even when your appetite and the amount and type of food you eat
  • remain the same or even increase
  • Rapid heartbeat (tachycardia) — commonly more than 100 beats a minute — irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) or pounding of your heart (palpitations)
  • Increased appetite
  • Nervousness, anxiety and irritability
  • Tremor — usually a fine trembling in your hands and fingers
  • Sweating
  • Changes in menstrual patterns
  • Increased sensitivity to heat
  • Changes in bowel patterns, especially more frequent bowel movements
  • An enlarged thyroid gland (goiter), which may appear as a  swelling at the base of your neck
  • Fatigue, muscle weakness
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Skin thinning
  • Fine, brittle hair

  • With consistant treatment we may even be able to reduce medication as well as eliminate symptoms!! With no side-effects!! There's one result, getting better!!

    So what is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the art of inserting fine needles into points throughout the body to balance the bodies vital energy, or Qi. When you get sick, go through physical or emotional trauma, the body's Qi becomes imbalanced. Acupuncture allows the body to heal itself through balancing Qi. Returning the body to normal homeostasis.

What does this mean in English? When a needle is inserted into the body the first two reactions your body takes are your immune system activates because a foreign object just entered the body. This will send anti-inflammatory properties to the site of the needle. The other system that activates because nerves sense the needle, is the parasympathetic nervous system, the system that controls all involuntary actions in the body. Sleep/wake cycles, digestion, hormone regulation, nerve impulse regulation, circulation, etc. When we activate this system the body naturally controls any function that is over or under active. Certain hormones and other chemicals can be tested before and after acupuncture to prove this.

Acupuncture does work and can change people's lives!!

The improvement of his quality of life has been momentous. He is still currently under my care for maintenance of his 3 complaints, coming every to every other week. He is also taking his herbs continually. As we progress treatments will diminish to once every three weeks to once a month, which we will stick with due to the patients advanced age. If he needs to come more often, he will be treated accordingly.

    Definitions:
Delayed/Inhibited Ejaculation – a condition in which an extended period of sexual stimulation is necessary for a man to reach sexual climax and ejaculate. In severe conditions, some may not be able to ejaculate at all. It can be a temporary or lifelong problem.
Atrial Fibrillation – is an irregular and often rapid heart rate that commonly causes poor blood flow throughout the body. When the hearts two upper chambers (the atria) beat irregularly/out of rhythm with or out of coordination/time with the two lower chambers (the ventricles) this is considered to be atrial fibrillation. Episodes can come and go or be chronic. Atrial fibrillation itself is not usually life-threatening, though it is a serious medical condition that requires treatment.
Radiofrequency Ablation – a process where a thin flexible tube (catheter) is inserted into a vein in the arm or groin. It is then threaded through the blood vessels into the heart. Heat (radiofrequency) is then applied through the catheter to destroy identified heart tissue causing a heart condition.

    Testimonials

Simply put, Lisa Lapwing is a gifted healer. She has developed this gift through her work as a personal trainer and acupuncturist. I began training with her in 2007 to address specific chronic health concerns. She was instrumental in introducing me to new ways of exercise that would strengthen the muscles around my weak joints. Over time, she also encouraged me to embrace a healthier diet and acupuncture for my joints and for stress relief. The results can be seen in my continuing physical strength and general health, not to mention my cheery disposition! I am consistently impressed by Lisa's knowledge of Western medicine and her ability to combine this knowledge with her expertise in Eastern medicine. Her treatments are well coordinated with the treatment I receive from MDs. I cannot recommend her highly enough!
    --Lauren

I came to be treated by Lisa, a Medical Doctor whom specializes in palliative care, for erectile dysfunction initially. I had my reservations about whether acupuncture would actually work since I was coming from a Biomedical background. Right away, Lisa made me feel at ease and exhibited extensive knowledge and understanding about my condition. She knew exactly what she was talking about and could explain to me how acupuncture was going to work for my condition so that, as a Doctor, I could understand and relate. After about six treatments or so I began to experience significant results. I was so impressed and satisfied with the results for my erectile dysfunction, I asked Lisa if we could work on my asthma and allergies. After only one treatment I felt improvement that medications had never given me. I was and am convinced that acupuncture and Lisa’s craft of it, works 100%! I now refer friends and patients of mine to her. I came from a skeptical frame of mind and Lisa has proven to me the importance of acupuncture and Oriental medical care.
                                                                                           --Dr. Jim K.

I started getting treatments from Lisa when she was a student at AOMA. She has since helped me with a variety of issues ranging from anxiety to insomnia and some in between. I always feel so much better after getting a treatment, which consists of acupuncture and cupping or tuina as needed.
Lisa is very attentive to her clients and has an amazing ability to intuit her their treatment needs. A perfect example of this happened earlier this year when I was going through a really stressful time. I had read my horoscope that suggested that I should imagine an acupuncturist inserting a needle in the “spirit gate” point to allow the spirit to come and go as it needs. I had told Lisa about the horoscope at my next appointment. She explained to me what it was and what the benefits were. Ironically, at my previous appointment with her, she had placed ear seeds on me on that same exact point because she just felt like I needed them. I was absolutely floored! It was like she has a sixth sense!
Lisa is extremely knowledgeable and professional, and gives great suggestions on how to manage my symptoms in between treatments. I am practically symptom-free now and just go in for maintenance. Lisa genuinely cares about her clients’ health and well-being which is evident from the first time you meet her. She is a truly gifted healer and I recommend her wholeheartedly. I feel so fortunate to have found her and you will too.
    --Monica L.

Lisa Lapwing is a Master Acupuncturist and body work therapist. Her treatment has greatly alleviated pressure and chronic pain I regularly experience on the left side of my body from a dislocated shoulder and rib. Her focused and delicate treatments put me at ease despite my fear of needles and uncertainty about acupuncture in general. She is able to talk me through the process and allow me to receive the healing benefits of this age-old practice. After only two treatments with Lisa, my protruding rib has receded by at least a half an inch, the bloating and discomfort I experienced due to displacement of ribs and pull from my shoulder has subsided, and I am standing taller, breathing deeper, and sleeping more comfortably. I have had other acupuncturists, chiropractors and cranial sacral therapists in the past, but Lisa has a certain gift for individualizing her treatments and making the healing aspects stick. I will return to her for treatment whenever I am in the Austin area. She is an absolute master, and I recommend her with high regard.

Acupuncture & Why It Works for Pain

    An article for you...
